Rare Blue Lobster Found in The Isle of Man Island, England
Pulled from the ocean to be served in a posh restaurant, this lobster could be forgiven for feeling a little blue.
But his unusual colour has proved a lifesaver for the unusual 5lb crustacean as he has been deemed too interesting to eat.
Saved from the the boiling pot, Blue - as he has naturally been christened - was caught off the coast of the Isle of Man by three stunned lobsters potters.
Scientists say just one lobster in two million is blue - the result of a genetic defect that causes them to produce an excessive amount of protein.
He was caught by John Williams, Bev Cregeen and Wayne Pearson who were pulling lobster pots on to their boat, Whisky Galore, when they spotted Blue sitting forlornly in one of the pots.
Miss Cregreen said: 'He was a different colour from the rest of them, but it was only when we looked it up on the internet we realised how rare blue lobsters are.
'We don't know what to do with him. It would be nice to put him somewhere for people to see. He's too good to be eaten.'
And because of his different colour, Blue, cannot be released back into the wild as his colour makes him a target for other lobsters.
Until a suitable home can be found Blue is being kept in a stock box where he is safe from the snapping pincers of other jealous lobsters.
A research study conducted by Professor Ronald Christensen, at the University of Connecticut, USA, found that excessive levels of a protein combines with a red caratenoid molecule known as astaxanthin, forming a blue complex known as crustacyanin. It is this that makes the lobster blue.
In 2006 lobsterman David Percy caught a yellow lobster near Whaleback Island in the US at the mouth of the Kennebec River. The odds of finding a yellow lobster are approximately 1 in 30 million.
It is estimated that only about one in 100 million lobsters are albino - lacking in coloured pigments. They are known as 'white' or 'crystal' lobsters.

Mysterious Triangular Unindentify Flying Object (UFO) Seen Near Wrexham
Strange, dazzling lights flying slowly through the night sky have been reported near Wrexham, sparking a new UFO scare.
The Evening Leader has been inundated with calls reporting the triangular shapes over Rhos, as well as sightings in Johnstown and Borras. The incident, the latest in a long line of sightings in the town, is strengthening claims that the town is fast becoming a UFO hotspot. Janet Bancroft, 28, and partner Mark Pluke, 24, both witnessed the dazzling lights from their home on Maes-y-Ficerdy, Rhos, after Mark had gone to put the rubbish out. According to the couple, the lights, spotted at about 7.40pm, formed into a slow-moving triangle before eventually disappearing from view some 20 minutes later. Janet said: "It was really strange. They formed into a 'V' shape and then into a triangle which sort of got bigger and bigger." Some have dismissed the phenomenon as Chinese lanterns or low-flying aircraft. Janet, however, is not so sure. "From the way they came up and formed, I don't think lanterns could do that in the air," she said.
"It is something stranger than that and somebody knows what they are. "It was really creepy. It takes a lot to scare me and that scared me. "After that we counted four helicopters in the sky – there is definitely something odd going on." She added: "I'm not one to believe in UFOs, but that was definitely not right."

Mysterious Object in Space Resembled The Firefly
An object that brightened intensely and then faded back into obscurity over a period of about seven months is unlike anything astronomers have seen before, a new study reports.
The object, called SCP 06F6, was first spotted in the constellation Bootes in February 2006 in a search for supernovae by the Hubble Space Telescope.
Nothing had been seen at its location before it started to brighten, and nothing was spotted after it dimmed. That suggests it is normally too faint to observe and that it brightened by at least 120 times during its firefly-like episode.
Stars are known to brighten dramatically when they explode as supernovae. But supernovae reach their maximum brightness after about 20 days, and this object took a leisurely 100 days to hit its peak.
The object's spectrum is also bizarre. It does not match that of anything seen in the mammoth Sloan Digital Sky Survey, which has mapped more than a quarter of the sky.
Near or far
The spectrum shows a handful of spectral lines, but when astronomers try to trace any one of them to an element – such as magnesium, the other lines fail to match up with known elements.
"Because we can't see anything we recognise in the spectrum, we can't tell if it's even in the galaxy or in another galaxy," says Kyle Barbary of the University of California, Berkeley, lead author of the new study.

Saxon Warriors Bones Founded By Archaeologists
For a thousand years they have lain side by side in a rough earth grave, one throwing a skeletal arm across the other.
Believed to be Saxon warriors, they are thought to have died together and been buried together as brothers in arms.
Their return to the limelight after so many centuries comes as archaeologists work on a 90-acre site near Ramsgate in Kent before it is developed into a salad-growing complex.
At first they were taken to be a man and wife, buried some time during the Saxon period between 410 and 1066, but now that opinion has changed.
Adrian Gollop, project officer at the Canterbury Archaeological Trust, said: 'It is quite a rare discovery.
'The body on the right is definitely male.
'They are exceptionally tall, both over six feet. The one on the left has got some female traits to it but it does seem to be male.
'Until we get the bones examined, we cannot be 100 per cent certain.
'We think they could have been buried as brothers in arms.
'There were no artefacts buried with them to give us any clues. It is a bit of a mystery.'
The trust hopes that forensic tests on the bones will help solve the puzzle.
Other graves and artefacts ranging from the early bronze age between 2700BC and 1500BC to medieval times have been found on the site.
Another poignant grave is from the Roman era and is that of a young girl - thought to be in her early teens - who died in childbirth.
The mother and baby seem to have been buried soon after death with the young girl still holding a smoothed pebble she was probably holding as a comforter during labour.

Oldest Skeleton Found In Underwater Cave At Mexico ?
Dubbed Eva de Naharon, or Eve of Naharon, the female skeleton has been dated at 13,600 years old. If that age is accurate, the skeleton—along with three others found in underwater caves along the Caribbean coast of the Yucatán Peninsula—could provide new clues to how the Americas were first populated.
The remains have been excavated over the past four years near the town of Tulum, about 80 miles southwest of Cancún, by a team of scientists led by Arturo González, director of the Desert Museum in Saltillo, Mexico.
"We don't now how [the people whose remains were found in the caves] arrived and whether they came from the Atlantic, the jungle, or inside the continent," González said.
"But we believe these finds are the oldest yet to be found in the Americas and may influence our theories of how the first people arrived."
In addition to possibly altering the time line of human settlement in the Americas, the remains may cause experts to rethink where the first Americans came from, González added.
Clues from the skeletons' skulls hint that the people may not be of northern Asian descent, which would contradict the dominant theory of New World settlement. That theory holds that ancient humans first came to North America from northern Asia via a now submerged land bridge across the Bering Sea.
"The shape of the skulls has led us to believe that Eva and the others have more of an affinity with people from South Asia than North Asia," González explained.
Concepción Jiménez, director of physical anthropology at Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History, has viewed the finds and says they may be Mexico's oldest and most important human remains to date.

Great Lake Sea Monster "Storsjöodjuret" Found in Sweden
A group of filmmakers claim to have successfully captured Sweden’s legendary Great Lake Sea Monster (Storsjöodjuret), which is said to lurk in the waters of the Storsjön outside Östersund in northern Sweden.
The film clip shows a blurry, long and narrow silhouette moving in the lake’s depths.
“It clearly shows that it’s warm and is made up of cells, otherwise our cameras wouldn’t indicate red, so it can be a sea snake or some other kind of sea animal,” said a female member of the film crew to Sveriges Television news in Jämtland.
The effort to find the monster has generated a great deal of interest, with the American television network NBC planning to document the hunt.
Next summer, the number of special cameras placed in the lake will increase to thirty.
This isn’t the first time that crews have hunted for the Great Lake Sea Monster.
Back in 1894, a Swedish sea captain named Dedering created a stock company with the express purpose of catching the renowned beast.
The hunt, which was also sponsored in part by King Oscar II, even featured whale harpooners.
In 1986, Jämtland’s county administrative board banned anyone from “killing, injuring, or trapping a live animal such as the Great Lake Sea Monster” or from “removing or injuring the Great Lake Sea Monster’s eggs, roe, or dwelling”. Cryptozoology, Myths and Legends

Giant Flying "Serpents" Seen in North and South USA on 1860's
While buildling the transcontinental Railroad in 1866, workers in the Western United States reported a flying creature or machine in the sky with such detail, that in a popular local ballad it was described covered in "scales like a serpent's hide" though apparently had no wings to propell it.
And only two years later, noted by researchers Jerome Clark and Marcellow Truzzi, a remarkably similar description of such a creature came out of Chile around the same time. In 1868, the scientific publication, "Zoologist" printed this eyewitness description from a Chilean newspaper supposedly likewise seen by hundreds of eyewitnesses:
"On its body, elongated like a serpent, we could see only brilliant scales, which clashed together with a metallic sound as the strange animal turned it body in flight."
What were these creatures, or machines seen at the same time thousands of miles away, and with such detail that eyewitness stated were covered with reptilian like scales? Interestingly these sightings seem remarkably similar to the flying serpent deities of MesoAmerica and the Lung of China believed in by these cultures for thousands of years.

Mythical Unicorn Photos From African, Natural Phenomena
An African animal so rarely seen it was once believed to be a mythical unicorn has been caught on camera in the wild for the first time. The okapi, a deer-like creature with the long blue tongue of a giraffe and the rear of a zebra, was only discovered at the beginning of the 20th century when a British explorer sent a skin home to London.
Before this the animal had only been glimpsed in passing with the characteristic small bump in the corner of its head leading to claims that it could have been the unicorn written about in fantasy story books.
Even in the modern age humans had until now only fleetingly seen the creature's huge ears and stripey hind legs in the jungles of Africa.
The forest-dwelling mammal was not seen in the wild for 50 years ago and there were fears it had died out in the wake of the civil war in the Democratic of Congo.
However, zoologists did not give up hope. In 2006 tracks were found in the Virunga National Park and camera traps were put down by the Zoological Society of London in the hope of capturing the wild animal on film.
Now, the last few wild okapis have been captured on film.
Because the zebra stripes on the animal's behind are unique like a fingerprint, researchers have been able to identify different animals and survey a previously unknown population.
Dr Noelle Kumpel, ZSL's Bushmeat and Forests Conservation Programme Manager, was relieved to see the species has survived despite a decade of civil conflict.

Cobra's Albino From India
This rare albino cobra may look beautiful, but it is just as deadly as the rest of its species.
The three-and-a-half foot reptile was the only one of his albino siblings to survive, and is now kept on his own in a specially constructed enclosure.
Called Goya, he spends most of its day indoors due to his sensitivity to light, only venturing outside for his daily meal of five live rats.
Visitors flock to the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust in the Indian city of Chennai because of Goya's remarkable beauty, according to the trust's curator.
"We explain to them that Goya is actually lucky to be here because he would not survive for long in the wild as he has virtually no camouflage," Nikhil Whitaker said.
"Cobras in India are revered amongst the Hindu population, so you can imagine the interest a specimen such as this creates," he added.
"We sometimes think that he knows that he receives special attention and plays up to that."
Goya, who is a milky colour with shades of pink, was a gift from Dehiwala Zoo in Sri Lanka where they specially breed albino snakes.
Cobra bites can be fatal because of their deadly venom, but they only attack humans if they believe their survival is threatened.

The Leopard sharks With Swimmer in California
Paddling into the crystal clear waters she had no idea she was walking into every swimmer's nightmare -dozens of sharks collecting off the coast of Marina Del Rey, near Los Angeles, California.
Before she knew it, she was surrounded by dozens of Leopard sharks - and had to make a dash for the shore.
The dramatic episode was captured on film by a traffic helicopter from a local news show last month.
The KTLA helicopter had been in the skies following news stories and providing traffic updates for the Los Angeles television station.
In almost comic scenes, it catches the moments she suddenly spots the array of fins and realising her predicament she sprints for the beach.
Distinctively marked with dark brown spots on a silvery grey background, they are known to grow up to seven feet in length.
In hindsight the swimmer can reassure herself that the leopard sharks posed little danger to humans.

The Hedgehog Blonde Found in Gobowen, Shropshire.
Staff at wildlife centre are nursing back to health an extremely rare but prickly character.
A blonde hedgehog, which was found weak and struggling in Gobowen, Shropshire, has been taken to the Stapeley Grange Centre in Cheshire.
A spokesman said they had never had a blonde hedgehog before.
The hedgehog, thought to be a few months old, will stay at the centre until she reaches a satisfactory weight and will then be released.
Recessive gene
Dr Andrew Kelly said the centre receives about 600 hedgehogs a year but has never received a blonde one.
"They are extremely rare so it's a delight to have one in our care," he said.

Mr. Drew Hammonds Snapping Turtle At Earlswood Lake Near Birmingham
When fisherman Drew Hammonds saw a spiky armour-plated creature at the end of his line, he made a snap decision.
He dropped his rod and started to run. But after a quick look back he realised he had landed a snapping turtle.
And being so far from its native U.S., it was very snappy indeed.
Mr Hammonds, 37, caught the turtle early last Tuesday while fishing with friends at Earlswood Lake near Birmingham.
‘I only went fishing for carp,’ he said. ‘I thought I’d caught a big one when my rod started to bend. ‘Then I spotted a big shell coming out of the water, with spikes on its back.
‘It was hissing and spitting when we caught it - it was really vicious. You couldn’t go anywhere near it without it going for you.
‘It ripped through my net and my friend’s net.’ Worried that the turtle was hurt, the men tried to remove the hook in its mouth before putting it back in the water.
‘It kept snapping at me so I had to be careful. In the end I used metal forceps to cut through the hook. I had to do it quickly, because it was going for my hand.’
Turtle specialist Paul Eversfield identified the creature as an alligator snapping turtle (macroclemys temminckii). Mr Eversfield, from the British Chelonia Society, said the turtles were native to the southern states of the U.S.
‘They are potentially the largest freshwater turtles in the world with record size of over 100kg,’ he said.
‘As such, they represent the top predator in their natural environment and are capable of eating large fish and water fowl. Their natural diet is fish, crayfish, and smaller turtles.
‘Having been around, largely unchanged for nearly 200 million years, their survival strategy obviously works very well.
